I had back surgery on December 17, 2008. Beginning of March, my pain doctor gave me a cortisol shot. This was my first one after the surgery. The injection irratated my surgery area. I was busy doing a local show and needed to get the pain down so I can do my job. So on March 28, 2009 I went to our local ER. I had a Durgisic Patch due to my back surgery. The doctor that came in was arrogent and creul. He kept telling me I am being like Anna Nicole and Heath Ledger. I'm not even on all the stuff they were on. The doctor treated me like I was a druggy. He told me that he is not going to give me anything. It was Saturday, so my pain doctor wasn't in. I told the ER doctor to call my pain doctor. He said he would call my doc, but he may not do what he wants. He was just being cruel. The ER doc said he will give me a muscle relaxer IM shot (Norflex).
The ER Doc and nurse were talking. It was hard to hear all of it, but I did hear them talk about me be here for drugs. I was sitting in the room all upset crying because he was so mean. The nurse came in to give me the muscle relaxer shot. She was just like the doctor. She told me that the ER is not for craving your drug addiction. She came over to me and acholoed my right hib and butt area. But then she came over and stabbed the IM shot into my right thigh close to my knee. I couldn't even say "ouch" before she pushed all the meds in. I was in shock. My mom was in shock. I was huring so bad and now my leg was hurting. Then she left the room. She didn't care how I felt. I know that nurses and doctor at ERs do get alot of people in for drugs, but I just recently had back surgery two months ago. Waiting in the room rubbing the area where the IM shot went because it hurt so bad.
The ER doctor finally came in and he talk to my pain doctor. My pain doctor said it is ok to give her Diludid and Phenergan. The ER doctor didn't believe me that I had a pain doctor. The ER doctor told me that if anything happpens, it is your false. I had no clue what he meant by that. A different nurse came in. She was very nice. She gently gave me a shot of pain meds into my left butt. The nurse had me sign the papers so I could go.
That night, at the show, my right thigh hurt so bad. I was trying to focus on doing my job, runing the lights. Now my back is better but my right leg is killing me. I got home and went to bed.
In the morning, my right leg was still hurting very bad. I changed out of my pink pajamas and my right thigh looked like someone hit me with a baseball bat really hard. My mom took me back to the ER to see what is going on. I was afriad it was an infection. My grandma had Mersa from a surgery. I was scared. A very nice doctor came into the room and looked at my leg. He was shocked. He said he has never seen this before. He gave me a IM shot of pain meds and sent me on my marry way. I had to do another show, but my mind was on the shock of what happened.
Saturday (happened), Sunday (1st ER visit), Monday- I went back to the ER because the area on my thigh was getting all red looking. When you looked at it,it looked like an infection. Had a nice doctor, he was shocked and said he also has never seen this before. He told me to take Bendyl, to see if it is an allergy.
Tuesday- Went back because it still was red. The doctors had no idea on what to do.
A week later, the area started having blood to the surface of the skin. I could push the blood around. My mom was scared and so was I. They gave me a seven day antibotics.
I ended up going to the ER over seven times and my primary doctor over four times. None of the doctors knew what to do. The doctor that was creul, who started this. He saw me again and did a CT scan and he told me that all of this was my fault and it wasn't his fault. I have a feeling he said that because he doesn't want to get a lawsuit. Anyways, finally one of the ER doctor made an appointment to the Wound Clinic. Why didn't they do that in the beginning?
Frist wound clinic appointment. The doctor peeled all the skind off the big wound. The wound was upper thigh to knee. He told me that I had a small staff infection. He also said this happened because the application of the shot was bad. Well, I could say that too.
After three appointments to the wound clinic, they sent a surgeon to talk to me because the wound was not healing and getting worse. The surgeon dug a hole into my thigh where the wound was to see if he can find the blood source. Man did that hurt. The nerves were still there. He could not find a blood source, so he told me I need to go into surgery.
The wound surgery was June 2, 2009. They had to go deeper then they thought. I woke up with a wound vac.
My first dressing change (wound vac change) was horrid. I passed out and vomited because it hurt so bad. I had a nurse come to the house two times a week. I had to go to the wound clinic once a week. My pain was getting so severe. I kept blaming the wound vac. When the dressing came off to clean the area, I could see my tendon and muscles. It was so gross.
My wound was getting smaller but my pain was getting so severe. The doctors and nurses looked at me like I was crazy that the pain was getting worse. I would come to the wound clinic crying because it was burning and sharp pain. I had the wound vac on for seven weeks.
Got the wound vac off. The burning and severe pain was getting worse. I couldn't blame it on the wound vac anymore. I was so scared. The wound docs were looking at me like I was crazy. The wound clinic said they have never seen this before. (The wound, and the pain)
My wound still would not heal. It kept blistering and opening.
I went to the primary doctor trying to figure out why it was hurting so bad. Then we switched new wound clinic. They made sure that I had sivercream on it and bandages. The wound clinic that I was going to didn't put anything on it.
My pain and burning was getting so severe. It started going to my other leg. That was the point where I was so scared. My mom took me into the ER. We made an appointment for my Pain doctor but it was four weeks out. So the ER got sick of me. I had no clue what was going on. I went over 9 times. My primary doctor wrote me a note telling the ER it is ok to treat and give her IM pain injections. But the ER doctors would not do it. I can't figure out why ER doctors can be so aggrogete and creul. They don't care about people. They are only doing it because they have power and money. I was calling everyday to my pain doctor hoping that they have a cancelation. No luck. The pain and burning was so bad I thought about killing myself.
My mom was searching online for a lawyer and she ran into RSD. We have a friend that had RSD. My mom researched it. I had no clue. We finally got into my pain doctor. My mom told him that she wants him to treat me like I have RSD. He did a Sympathetic Nerve Block just to make my mom happy. After waking up from it my pain was gone. I feel that my pain doctor didn't think it would help because instead of scheduling my next appointment in seven days he scheduled out four weeks. By the six day my pain and burning was back. Again I was screwed. I called everyday hoping they had an opening.
Finally, four weeks later and getting yelled at in the ER, I got in to see my pain doctor. He set me up for a Sympathatic Nerve Block every week for eight weeks and then see what will happen.
It is now three 1/2 months with treating RSD. This disease is very scary and pain in the butt. I am still getting Sympathetic Nerve Blocks every other week.
