I am so frustrated. I have been getting Sympathetic Nerve Blocks every three weeks now for 2 years. They are helping me 100%. By the third week I can feel it is time to get one. Last week my pain doctor came in the room. He is trying to get me to do the Spinal Stimulator. Why do the Stimulator if what I am doing is working? I am able to everything I wasn't able to do before getting the Sympathetic Nerve Blocks so why mess up things that are helping.
He then tells me that even though I get the Spinal Stimulator I might still need to get Sympathetic Nerve Blocks and maybe a couple of more medications. How is this helping me? Then he goes into telling me that I should get married and have kids. What does that have to do with anything? Plus, that isn't what I want. I want a career in Theatre, Film, and Television not staying home taking care of a husband and kids. Maybe down the road, but right now that is not what I want.
Then he starts talking about how I should be living on my own. I live with my parents not because of my RSD, but because I am a full-time college students who has a crap load of students loans. Plus, I can't get a job and go full-time to school. I get tired with all that I already do, so having to move out and get a job won't help me. Once I graduate from College with my BFA I am still going to stay home, unless I find a job out of the area, so I can pay back my loans. Again I am not staying at my parents because of RSD, I am staying home because of not having the money. I don't understand what any of this had to do with the stimulator. Plus, if he feels that I shouldn't be living at home then why is he even making feel like I need to get a stimulator. I am still doing a lot of research on Spinal Cord Stimulator's, but from the research I have found when you have a stimulator you are limited on what you can do. You can't lift more than 5-10pds, you can't bend, etc.. So how am I going to do laundry? Pour my milk? Carry my backpack? Or even just pick up my Mac Computer?
Then he asks me why my dad never comes to my appointments. Again, what does this have to do with anything? Are you trying say I am messed up or something? My dad doesn't come to my appointments because he works third shift. My appointments are usually at 2:00pm. My dad goes to bed at 2:30ish. I would rather have my mom come because she is more entertaining. My dad is very quit. My mom always comes in the room with me not because I need her, but because it gets pretty lonely and boring in a room with no window. I usually have to wait an hour or more before he comes in or a nurse comes bring me into the procedure room. That is a long time sitting in a no window room by yourself.
He told us to do our homework and research spinal cord stimulator's. My mom and I were going to ask him more questions, but he said, "hold on I will be back. I am going to get you a brochure and DVD on it." Did he come back? No. The nurse who took me to the procedure room brought the DVD and Brochure. We had questions that came into our heads.
I am still working on collecting on as much research and other people's experience on the Spinal Cord Stimulator. Once I get a lot of my information together I will post as much information as I found about them. I know I am having a hard time finding studies and articles. I find a lot about people who got screwed up from the stimulator's as well marketing material selling the stimulator's. I want to know if there is a list of who isn't a candidate and statistics.
Someone on the RSD site posted this interesting article.
This is a long article, but I found very interesting. It explains studies on how RSD effects all our organs.
